Google Messages may soon allow editing of sent texts
There may be a text editing function coming soon to Google Messages. Recent code analysis of the app shows indications of a text editing function that would allow you to change messages after sending them or correct errors.
TheSpAndroid, who found evidence of the functionality concealed in the November update, is the source of this information. They discovered four new flags in particular within the code:
- bugle.enable_edit_ui
- bugle.load_edit_history
- bugle.process_outgoing_edits
- bugle.process_incoming_edits
The hints suggest using a chat program that allows you to alter messages. One flag displays the opportunity to view previous modifications, while the other suggests a change interface. How revisions are transmitted and received is outlined in the third and fourth.
A new database for recording edit metadata, such as timestamps and revision histories, is also indicated by the teardown. This points to a comprehensive editing process with thorough change monitoring.
It is noteworthy to mention that message modification is not formally included in the Rich Communication Services (RCS) specification. However, this hasn't prevented Google from releasing additional functions.
Despite end-to-end encryption not being included in the original RCS standard, the business integrated it into Messages.
The key query is: When will Android users be able to use this text-editing functionality? Regretfully, there are presently no hints in the beta build, and the functionality may be still in development. However, if Google determines it is not financially viable, it may ultimately opt to abandon it.
Modifying transmitted messages is a feature shared by several messaging apps, such as Telegram and WhatsApp. Therefore, Google may just be doing what others do and including this functionality within the Messages app.
