Mediatek has been pushing the boundaries of mobile computing chipsets for as long as I can remember now.
Mediatek’s latest additions, the 920 and 810 to the Dimensity lineup has brought midrange chipsets to the 6nm process.
Highlights of these chipsets are their 5G and 6nm processes, which no doubt will make these chipsets more power efficient than previous generations.
The new Dimensity 920 and 810 chipsets are both targeted at the upper-midrange segment of the smartphone industry, which makes the 920 and 810 chipsets launching on the 6nm process a big deal.
Highlights of Dimensity 920.
Node Process: The 6nm TSMC process that the Dimensity 920 was manufactured on helps with power management.
Also, due to its smaller size, 6nm chipsets provides a compact companion for more flexibility with other components on a smartphone.
Optics: The Dimensity 920 comes with advanced video 4k HDR recording and 108MP camera main lens support.
CPU: The Cortex-A78 on Dimensity 920, operates at 2.5GH frequency, providing faster app operation and other minimal tasks like unlocking your phone with a fingerprint scanner.
GPU: The Arm Mali-G68 GPU features all the technologies of the bigger G78, but with a design optimized for power-efficiency.
ROM: Dimensity 920 supports either premium 3.1 UFS or 2.2 UFS storage options.
RAM: premium LPDDR5 or midrange LPDDR4x memory chips can also be used on the Dimensity 920 for a cost effective assembly.
Dual 5G: Dimensity 920 supports dual 5G for both sims on a device.
Connectivity: Dimensity 920 also supports 5G call and data concurrency similar to what is present in the Mediatek G88, the same chipset that powers the incoming Redmi 10.
The Dimensity 920 also supports WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 for connectivity options.
Display: The Dimensity 920 supports FULLHD+ displays with ultra smooth 120hz operations.
Highlights of the Dimensity 810.
The Dimensity 810 comes with similar features to the 920, But differs in areas like:
The CPU speed dropping from the Cortex-A78 2.5GHz on the Dimensity 920, to Cortex-A76 2.4GHz on the Dimensity 810.
Also, for ROM and RAM, the Dimensity 810 uses UFS 2.2 and LPDDR4x.
And for connectivity, the Dimensity 810 is equipped with WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1.
The max camera support on the Dimensity 810 is 64mp, instead of 108mp on the Dimensity 920.
The latest additions from Mediatek to their Dimensity 5G lineup will give smartphone makers the much needed boost to offer better 5G experience to midrange smartphone users.
Thanks to the 6nm manufacturing process that the Dimensity 920 and 810 are built on, midrange users can expect a close to flagship experience on thier daily smartphone tasks, and have the power-efficiency of the 920 and 810 to accompany it.
What do you think? Are these new additions from Mediatek going to change the smartphone 5G adoption or its going to be a slow ride too?
