A technical malfunction within MTN Nigeria's system resulted in the vanishing of airtime debts from the accounts of subscribers who had borrowed from the company. Users were able to borrow again as the old debt has been cleared.

MTN Nigeria has being trending on ”X" (formerly Twitter), subscribers think the telecommunications operator intentionally erased their debts, leading to their celebration and expressions of gratitude towards the company. Others believe it was due to Black Friday while some users said it was an early Christmas bonus and other telecommunication company should emulate this act.

An MTN official verified to All Round Review that the removal of debts from subscribers' accounts resulted from a glitch. This implies that once MTN resolves the issue, subscribers will still be required to settle the supposedly cleared debts. The company has stayed mute regarding this and hasn't said anything about the issue publicly.

Service provider MTN Nigeria has reacted to the recent saga caused by system glitch. Posting on their official X, MTN stated that a glitch was responsible for the cancellation adding that balances will reflect accurate figures once problem is solved.

“MTN Nigeria Communications Plc can confirm a system glitch impacting balance enquiries. As a result, some customers may receive error messages showing that their balances have been cleared.

“This is not the case and all balances will reflect accurate figures once the problem is resolved. Our engineers are currently working to ensure this. Please accept our apologies. We regret the inconvenience.”

Some users have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction regarding the statement as some users has taken another loan from their recently cleared debts.
