Samsung is still working on dustproofing foldables, despite the difficulty.
The Galaxy Z Fold5 and Flip5 were supposed to be the first foldables to hit the market with dust protection in addition to water ingress protection, however, those speculations proved to be false. The new foldables have the same limited rating as their predecessors—water resistance.
According to TM Roh, head of mobile at Samsung, the organization is still working hard to figure out how to make foldable cellphones dustproof; therefore, the goal was undoubtedly there for this generation, but things didn't turn out as planned.
Roh claims that more work is required to create a dust-proofing method for foldables. He admitted that the business is well aware of the desire from customers for this feature and assured them that it is working in various ways to fulfill that demand.
However, considering the nature of foldable phones, which feature numerous flexible components as well as a number of moving parts in the hinge, the challenges cannot be overstated.
However, Roh is upbeat, noting out that Samsung's initial batch of foldables didn't have water resistance too, but that defense was later added, with the company "setting a new standard" for foldables in that regard. The inference is that dustproofing would follow a similar trajectory, so "please wait a little longer," he pleaded with the Korean media during a press conference today.
