Samsung launches Galaxy Z Fold 5 with upgraded hinge: folds flat, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 was launched on July 26, 2023, at a Galaxy Unpacked event in Seoul, South Korea.
In Seoul, South Korea, Samsung hosted its yearly Galaxy Unpacked event today. Several new items, including the eagerly anticipated Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, were introduced at the event. The foldable, which makes its debut as a small improvement over the Galaxy Z Fold 4, introduces a new hinge that allows it to fold flat. The flagship S23 series Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Samsung Galaxy chip is also included. Here are some specifics.
Other Specifications and Camera:
There won't be many modifications in the hardware area. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy powers the new Galaxy Z Fold 5, but that's about it. The camera setup is unaltered. On the back is a 50MP main camera, a 50MP wide-angle sensor, and a 10MP zoom camera. You get a big 10MP selfie camera on the cover screen as well as an internal 4MP under-display camera.
The same 4,400mAh battery powering the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 supports 25W wired and 15W wireless charging. On the software front, it runs One UI 5.1.1 based on Android 13 with features including a revamped taskbar and two-handed drag and drop. Additionally, the S Pen for the foldable has been 40% slimmer.
Design and Display:
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 can be seen if you've seen the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Both the ingress protection (IPX8) and the camera module on the back are identical to the previous generation model. The hinge on the phone is the only difference. The business chose a brand-new, flat-closing teardrop-shaped hinge. You may also use the phone at any angle thanks to it. When closed, the Z Fold 5 is 13.4mm thick as opposed to the Fold 4's 14.2mm thickness. It is also 10g less than the Z Fold 4, which weighs 263g, thanks to weight loss.
The phone's display hasn't changed all that much either. The 6.2-inch outside display has a resolution of 2316x904 pixels. The AMOLED display features an adjustable refresh rate of 120Hz. The interior has a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X with a resolution of 2176x1812 pixels and an adjustable refresh rate of 120 Hz. The primary screen's maximum brightness is 1,750 nits.
Retailers and Price Availability:
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 can be pre-ordered in select markets today and it will start shipping from August 11. The phone is offered in Icy Blue, Phantom Black, and Cream. About the price, Galaxy Z Fold 5 comes at $1,799 for the 256GB variant, $1,919 for the 512GB version, and $2,159 for the 1TB storage option.
