Samsung may use Exynos chips in the Galaxy S23 FE and Galaxy S24 in some regions.
The next Galaxy S23 FE is rumored to feature the Exynos 2200, and a Geekbench result seemed to support this claim a few weeks ago. However, some areas (such as the US) will receive the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in its instead.
There might be more factors involved. In this year's S23 generation, Samsung shifted only to Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy CPUs, and there have been rumors that the agreement with Qualcomm will last through the S24 series.
Despite the possibility that this is still the case, according to information obtained by Pocket Lint from insiders, Samsung is now considering reintroducing Exynos for the Galaxy S24 series in a few regions.
Even though the 2024 flagship should upgrade to the Exynos 2400, the S23 FE will still employ the outdated Exynos 2200 for the S22 series. The graphics performance should significantly improve because the GPU on this chip supposedly has four times the compute units of the Xclipse 920 of 2200.
Furthermore, according to certain (very) early CPU evaluations, its multi-core performance is 20% better than the SD 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy and its single-core performance is comparable to it. Naturally, the Exynos 2400 will face off against the 8 Gen 3 chip, so it is too early to predict how well they will perform in comparison.
"I'd be surprised if Samsung decided to return to Exynos for the crucial European market, but we might see it in some smaller markets to ensure Samsung's in-house platform stays in the game," Ben Wood, Chief Analyst and CMO of CCS Insight told Pocket-lint. These recent rumors may be motivated by Samsung wishing to keep Qualcomm on its toes as well, which is also probably a factor.
The final choice won't be made for a few months, and Samsung might wait to make changes to its very significant Galaxy S24 series after seeing how the Galaxy S23 FE is received.
