The race for an affordable 5G smartphone has been going on for quite a while now. The zeal to bring 5G to every smartphone user has not been an easy task.

Two companies that is spearheading this task are Snapdragon and Mediatek. The SD 480G 5G and the Dimensity 720 5G is a practical explanation of where these companies are driving at.

For Snapdragon, the sd 480G 5G chipset is the first 5G chipset in the Snapdragon 4series lineup.
The Mediatek Dimensity 720 on the other hand is an upgrade from the Dimensity 700 5G chipset that was launched earlier.

The Snapdragon 480G 5G and Dimensity 720 5G are both low-end chipset targeted at a very large market of smartphone users who desire that 5G speed but for specific reasons cannot go for the likes of Samsung s21 or Vivo X60 pro devices.

To help you make the best of choice when going for devices that are powered by either the Snapdragon 480G 5G or Dimensity 720 chipsets. We will be taking a look at the different configuration of these chipsets.

Mediatek Dimensity 720 5G: Cheapest 5G chipset?

Snapdragon 480G 5G highlights.

Other than the SD480G being a low-midrange chipset. There are few outstanding specs the Snapdragon 480G 5G boast of, features like:

The cheapest device we could find that was powered by the SD 480G 5G chipset is the newly launched Motorola G50 5G.

With specifications like Snapdragon 480, Android 11, 6.5″ 90hz, 48.0MP triple rear cameras, 8GB RAM, 128GB ROM, 5000mAh at a retail price of ₦80,000.Snapdragon 480G 5G powered Motorola G50

For Dimensity 720, we picked the Oppo A72 as the cheapest Dimensity 720 5G device.

Thanks to its hardware configuration of  16.0MP triple rear cameras, Dimensity 720, 18W Charger, 6.5″ 90hz, Android 10, 4050mAh Battery and a retail price of ₦80,000 for its 4/128GB variant.

Dimensity 720 powered Oppo A72 5G smartphone.

It’s almost unbelievable that a 5G device would cost this low.

From the above specification of the Snapdragon 480G 5G and the Mediatek Dimensity 720, you can deduce that both chipsets are targeted at the lowend 5G market.

The sd480G 5G and The Dimensity 720 both share similar configuration with few differences. Like the Dimensity 720 using a better 7nm process compared to Sd480G 8nm process.

Also, the Snapdragon 480G comes with WiFi 6 support, compared to the older WiFi 5 support on the Dimensity 720.

Seeing what mediatek and snapdragon are doing in the chip industry, it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing 5G enabled devices at a very affordable prices.

Until the next one, ZesusHV for @Allroundreview wishing you a wonderful day.
