Apple is presently considering between September 12 and 13 for its iPhone 15 event date, according to sources close to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg and 9to5Mac. The 12th possibility is most likely, though.

By internal communications, there will be a "major smartphone announcement" on September 13 and staff are advised not to take the day off. Gurman leans more in the direction of September 12, but he emphasizes that anything might happen.

The Apple event will follow its customary hybrid structure, with some pre-recorded movies that will take us back to the epidemic period and the majority of it being made up of live presentations. Naturally, a live audience will be present on Apple's campus, and a list of agenda items will include hands-on time with the new iPhone 15 series.

Unknownz21, a tipster who shared further information, tweeted that the A17 Bionic chip used in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max would purportedly have six CPU and GPU cores. There are six CPU cores but only five GPU cores in the A16 Bionic from the previous iteration. A second GPU core will thus be added to the next-generation CPU, which should help to improve performance for several applications, including gaming.

The A17 Bionic's clock speed will also increase from 3.46GHz to 3.7GHz. Based on the more sophisticated 3nm manufacturing process, the new A-series chipset will improve the overall performance and energy efficiency. The tipped-off source asserts that just 6GB of RAM would be available on Apple's next iPhone 15 Pro series. It had been suggested in earlier speculations that the memory would increase to 8GB RAM. But, Unknownz21 claims otherwise.

According to reports, Samsung and Micron will provide the LPDDR5 RAM module for the memory. The upgrade to 8GB RAM for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, according to the tip, is not out of the question but is doubtful. Consider this news with a grain of salt for the time being because it is still only an unsubstantiated claim.
