WhatsApp users can now send video messages of up to 60 seconds in length.

For many years, voice communications have been a mainstay of WhatsApp. Voice calls have also been successful. Nonetheless, video calls as well. Find the missing piece in this series. Yes, video messages. Well, they weren't there until today.

Sending and receiving video messages is now possible on WhatsApp. End-to-end encryption provided by WhatsApp protects these, which can last up to 60 seconds each.

How it works:

To avoid adding a new learning curve, sending a video message has been purposefully made comparable to sending a voice message. Now, the icon formerly used for voice messages can be touched to enter video message mode. Then, exactly like with voice messages, you hold it and record, and when you release it, it sends. Similar to voice messaging, you can swipe up to lock and record the video without having to keep the button depressed.

When a video is opened in a chat, it automatically plays on mute. Tapping on a video while it is playing will start (and then toggle) the sound. The ability to send videos via WhatsApp is now being rolled out, and "in the coming weeks" it will be available to all users.
